Alcohol and Breast Cancer Risk

There has been a lot of discussion about the health benefits of wine which left us wondering if the benefits outweigh the risks.   But a large scale study consisting of over 180,000 women ages 50-71, found that alcohol increases multiple risk factors for breast cancer.

The conclusion of this effort is that one or more alcoholic beverages per day can increase the risk for breast cancer, especially for those who are postmenopausal , those with estrogen receptor positive tumors and those already at risk due to family history, genetic test results, a history of smoking, etc..

This means that the best strategy is to avoid alcohol intake to be safe.
