Apricots contain antioxidants that can reduce pre-cancerous cell changes that may lead to the formation of breast tumors. In a study including 270 postmenopausal breast cancer survivors, a significant association was found between higher blood carotenoid levels and lower numbers of cell markers of oxidative stress. Out of all the carotenoids measured, alpha-carotene, found in orange-colored vegetables and fruits, was the most predictive of lower levels of cellular oxidation, a biological precursor to many cancers.
Fresh and dried apricots make simple snacks and frozen can be added to smoothies.
